The Last Rider was created out of Ron Sexsmith’s wistfulness for his childhood. Written at a time when Ron was moving from living in Toronto to rural life in Stratford, Ontario there’s a sentimental feeling to it. Recorded at the Tragically Hip’s studio, Bathhouse, this is Ron’s first album with his touring band. There are so many great tracks, interesting and clever lyrics (as we’ve come to expect from Ron) and subtle turns in the melody that only a true songwriter could pull off. As a whole it is succinct and complete, whimsical and beautiful.
